The Holy Family

Set in Slavonia, northern Croatia in 1963, Holy Family is a culturally rich costume drama which intimately depicts the lives of its village protagonists.

Janja is an orphaned Bosnian day labourer hired by Marko, a wealthy landowner, to work in his fields. A mishap ensures that Janja becomes drawn more closely into the lives of the landowner’s family and she eventually becomes the wife of Marko’s shy and diffident son Ivo.
